In January 2007, Groove Alliance journeyed to Baghdad, Iraq on a humanitarian mission. Our lead singer, Mike was stationed in Baghdad and through an unbelievable set of connections and events, he was able to get two corporate sponsors and a charity to fund our trip and fly ten people and several tons of band equipment into Baghdad, Iraq! (crazy, I know.)
We played for troops, U.S. Embassy workers, & local Iraqis who worked in the green zone. We also held a benefit concert while we were there to raise money for Iraqi children who needed lifesaving surgeries and raised over $70,000. Truly an amazing experience. |
